When do savings bonds mature?
EE and I savings bonds reach final maturity after 30 years. Series E issues through November 1965 earned for 40 years; later Series E and Savings Notes earned for 30. Enter a series and issue month above to check the final maturity date. This checker explains when interest stops without recommending a redemption decision.
Values for EE, I, Series E and Savings Notes are labeled $100 examples. Enter the certificate’s actual denomination in the Savings Bond Calculator for its matching amount. HH and H paid interest separately and redeem at face value; this checker provides their dates rather than a compounded value calculation.
Redeeming a matured paper certificate
Some banks and credit unions redeem savings bonds, with institution-specific identification and account requirements. Ask about the procedure before visiting. TreasuryDirect also provides mail-in procedures using FS Form 1522; requirements depend on entitlement to payment and the bond’s amount.
Follow the current official redemption instructions instead of a mailing address copied from another site. This project does not process payments or request a certificate upload. Read How to Cash Savings Bonds for the procedure.

The EE calculator distinguishes the doubling guarantee from final maturity. The I calculator explains its interest schedule. Sources and boundaries appear in the methodology.
Questions about your bond
Does an EE doubling guarantee mean interest has stopped?
Original maturity and final maturity serve different purposes. Original maturity is the date of the applicable doubling guarantee. An EE bond can keep earning after that adjustment until it reaches 30 years. Use the final maturity date to identify when interest stops; the guarantee date alone does not establish that status.
Does this checker redeem or locate a bond?
The checker compares an issue date with a published maturity rule. It does not establish ownership, locate an account or redeem a certificate. Follow TreasuryDirect’s current claim forms for missing holdings and its redemption instructions for payment. No serial number or personal information is required to calculate the final maturity date here.
